On bodies…

Looking the way most people look isn’t a personal failing. Most people put weight on around the abdomen around menopause. Not because they’re making bad decisions, but because bodies do that. Most people have cellulite and stretch marks and some arm jiggle. Most people don’t have washboard abs or a huge penis or super perky boobs. There’s still a lot you can do with an “average” body – you can run or lift weights or have sex or dance or go skinny dipping or whatever takes your fancy. Your ordinariness is not actually stopping you from doing anything, it’s your “waiting until” that stops you. It’s not your fault, you’re hearing everywhere that should wait. But they’ll never tell you you’re ok, or you can go now. You have to decide to go anyway. The less ready you feel, the better.
